7th Pay Commission Da Arrear and DA Hike News: While 1 crore employees and pensioners received 3 to 4% DA based on the half-yearly statistics of the AICPI index issued by the Labor Ministry, the central government has refused to pay the 18 months of arrears of DA that remained unpaid during COVID-19. It is expecting that the Modi cabinet meeting before Ganesh Chaturthi in September may include a proposal to amend the DA rates.

However, there is no official confirmation yet. More than one crore central employees and pensioners of the country may get a big gift from the central government in September. This announcement made by the Central Government is a matter of relief for the government employees, pensioners and family pensioners who are facing the wrath of rising inflation. The increase in Dearness Allowance will greatly help the employees, pensioners and family pensioners in their daily expenses and in relieving their financial burden.

As we all know that the Central Government revises the DA/DR rates twice a year in January and July month on the basis of half yearly data of AICPI index. DA was increased by 4% from January, after which DA increased from 46% to 50% in March. Now the next DA is to be increased from July 2024, which will depend on the AICPI index scores from January to June 2024.

DA may increase by 3 to 4%

According to the AICPI data, All India CPI-IW has increased by 1.5 points to 141.5 by June 2024, in such a situation, DA/DR is expected to increase by 3 to 4%. At present the employees are getting the benefit of 50% DA and it is estimated that from July 2024 it may increase again by 3 to 4%.

It is expecting that the good news regarding DA will be announce in the upcoming cabinet meeting in the month of September. It is also expecting that, the central employees and pensioners will also receive arrears for July and August, along with arrears, there will be a big increase in salary also.

Formula to decide Dearness Allowance (DA)

For your information, let us tell you that AICPI index plays a major role in determining the Dearness Allowance (DA) for central employees. There is a formula to calculate DA of central government employees and pensioners. AICPI also check the changes in retail prices in different sectors.

  • The Central Government Employee’s DAwill be calculated as – DA% = [(Average of AICPI (Base Year 2001 = 100) for the last 1 year – 115.76)/115.76] x 100
  • The Public Sector Employee’s DA will be calculated as – DA% = [(Average of AICPI (Base Year 2001 = 100) for last 3 months – 126.33)/126.33] x 100
