Reasons- List of Retirees Who Will No Longer Get Paid From Social Security Benefits

Reasons- List of Retirees Who Will No Longer Get Paid From Social Security Benefits: In order to guarantee a steady stream of income in retirement, many Americans save aside a percentage of their earnings throughout their working years. With prices rising due to inflation and interest rates remaining stubbornly high, Social Security, a crucial program created for this purpose, provides monthly payments ranging from slightly over $1,000 at the lower end to roughly $4,500 at the higher end. As a result, many retirees find themselves more dependent on this income than ever. Individuals who are classified as “never beneficiaries” are more likely to face financial hardships throughout their retirement years.

Total beneficiaries who are receiving the benefits

Around 64 million Americans will get Social Security benefits in 2024, which will contribute to their financial stability. Not many seniors, though, have it so good. 3.3% of seniors, the Social Security Administration (SSA) reports, will never receive any benefits. This is a small but important fraction. These people are categorized as “never beneficiaries,” which means that regardless of their age or potential eligibility, they will not be receiving benefits.

Reasons: Why some beneficiaries may never get Social Security benefits

  • Numerous people who do not qualify for benefits belong to particular groups. Most of these people are immigrants who came to the United States at a later age. The Social Security Administration reports that 88% of those classified as “never beneficiaries” are either irregular workers or immigrants who arrived late in life. Those who came to the United States after the age of fifty or older and did not make enough money while living there to be eligible for benefits is known as late-arriving immigrants. Because of their shorter working histories, their Social Security payments sometimes fall short of the minimum required for eligibility.
  • Another group that finds it difficult to qualify are infrequent workers. These people might not have worked throughout their entire lives, which mean they haven’t made enough contributions to the system to meet Social Security eligibility requirements. Furthermore, some Americans work in non-covered industries like government employment and may not be able to rely on Social Security due to their high salary. In these cases, they may instead turn to pensions or other retirement income sources. Sadly, some people who are eligible for benefits and never live long enough to receive them, which adds to the number of people who are “never beneficiaries.”
  • SSA data shows that only 5.8% of people who receive Social Security benefits live below the poverty level, but 54.3% of “never beneficiaries” do. This striking disparity emphasizes how crucial these payments are in keeping seniors out of poverty.
