PAN 2.0 Update 2024
The cabinet decided to launch PAN 2.0 in the latest meeting on 25 November 2024. The update will introduce new features in PAN card including the QR code which is not available in the traditional Pan cards. The government will allot approximately ₹1,435 crore to reconstruct PAN and TAN Services for the user. It will include multiple changes and updates in details of the PAN card holders.
Features of PAN 2.0
- Single application portal: Currently there are total three portals which are governed by central government to apply for PAN card including UTIITSL, PAN NSDL and Protean portal. However individuals can apply from any portal to get the PAN card or update details in PAN card. But the PAN 2.0 will release a single platform for issuing PAN card where users and avail all the PAN card related activities in one platform managed by Income Tax government.
- QR code in PAN card; Government is already providing QR code in the new issued Pan cards. However the details available in QR code or not accessible for everyone, but the new PAN 2.0 implementation will include the readable QR and the specific portal to read and verify details of the PAN card by scanning the QR code.
- Free of cost PAN card service: Currently individuals have to pay Rs 107 in India to apply for PAN card through online or offline mode. However in this payment you will receive the hard copy of the PAN card on PVC plastic at your address. But the new implementation of PAN 2.0 will introduce free of cost PAN card services, where individuals can apply and update their details without any extra charges. After that they will able to download the PDF copy of the PAN card in email id and can take a printout of it. However if you want a printed PAN card then you only have to pay 50 rupees instead of 107 rupees.

How to update PAN 2.0 free?
The government has only discussed PAN 2.0 in the recent Cabinet meeting and allot budget to implement these all specifications. But the implementation will start soon were individuals can apply for new PAN card 2.0 using new website of Income Tax Department. However currently you can update your current PAN card with QR code facilities by following the procedure:
- Visit to the official website of PAN card or you can click on this link to visit directly Pan card 2.0 website
- Now you will reach on the new page where you have to select the correction in PAN card link under the application section.
- Now you will be asked to enter your person details in the registration page where you will get OTP for login on the dashboard
- Now you will get three options either you can apply through paperless procedure where you need to provide only your Aadhaar card details and your all the information will automatically be fetched from the Aadhar including name, photograph etc.
- However if you want to change your details which are not available in Aadhar then you can opt the upload document section where you need to provide your new documents separately to update it including photograph, address proof, contact details, existing PAN card etc.
- After that you need to complete your all the necessary information in the application form and click on the final Submit link
The system will ask you to provide address details where your pan card will be sent through post and you need to pay the application charges through online mode accordingly.

Once you complete your application, You will receive acknowledgement on your email id and mobile number and can track your application status accordingly. Once the authority verify your details and update it you will get notification on your email and will also receive the PDF of your pan card accordingly. However it will take next 2 to 3 days to receive your physical PAN card at your address.
