Association of Indian Universities: 38th unifest 2024-25: Founded in 1925, the Inter University Board (IUB) changed its name to the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) in 1973. Following the founding of three prestigious universities (Bombay, Calcutta, and Madras in 1857), there was a long-standing need for an organization in India to ensure that degrees from Indian and foreign universities were equivalent. As a result, the Inter University Board was established as an autonomous body.
The primary goal of the AIU is to safeguard and advance the interests of universities, support university operations, particularly through information exchange and increased collaboration in the fields of culture, sports, and related fields, and assist universities in mutual degree recognition. It began serving as a respected source of research-based policy advice to the Indian government in the field of higher education after independence.
